Baker Hughes booked three separate awards in the second quarter to supply equipment and services for Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass LNG facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, the company said Thursday, July 9. The combined work is expected to add more than 6 million tons per annum (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas production capacity at the terminal.
The equipment orders
Bechtel Energy and Cheniere placed orders with Baker Hughes to supply liquefaction equipment for two parts of the Sabine Pass expansion: Train 7 and a boil-off gas re-liquefaction unit. The Phase 1 package includes seven PGT25+ G4 gas turbines driving 15 centrifugal compressors, together enabling about 6 MTPA of additional LNG production.
A third, separate award covers fleet-wide upgrades. Over a four-year period, Baker Hughes will overhaul every installed PGT25+ G4 gas turbine already running at Sabine Pass, raising the power output of the existing fleet. Sabine Pass's current facility capacity is around 30 MTPA. Baker Hughes said the turbine upgrades, together with Train 7 and the boil-off gas unit, are expected to add more than 6 MTPA of capacity in total.

Baker Hughes Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Simonelli said the awards would "help our customers expand LNG production and meet growing energy demand." Cheniere Chairman, President and CEO Jack Fusco called Baker Hughes "a key partner in the development of Sabine Pass," describing a supplier relationship between the two companies that spans decades.
