Nabors Drilling Technologies and Corva AI have combined their separate drilling software platforms into a single system, RigCLOUD Powered by Corva, announced in September 2025. The integration merges Nabors's RigCLOUD edge computing platform with Corva's AI platform-as-a-service, giving drilling crews and engineers one source of real-time data instead of two systems that often produced different numbers for the same job.
One set of numbers instead of two
Before the merger, Nabors's RigCLOUD Analytics and Corva's own analytics system tracked drilling key performance indicators separately, and each used different logic to calculate them. Tatiana Borges, RigCLOUD director at Nabors, said her company alone had ten different ways of calculating rate of penetration, whether measured on bottom, as gross ROP, or by depth per hour. Connection times varied too, depending on whether the clock started when pipe came off bottom or when the slips went in. Those gaps built up over a well and left drillers with a different read on performance depending on which system they checked. "Any system calculating KPIs has raw data with logic and filtering," Borges said.
How the data moves now
Rig instrumentation still feeds an edge computing system on site, which streams data to a cloud server, as RigCLOUD always has. In the new setup, that data now passes through Corva's AI and machine learning models before reaching apps such as the SmartNAV directional guidance system or SmartPLAN execution engine. The models produce predictive output, including flags for downhole vibrations and recommended ROP settings, that used to go only to engineers at Nabors's remote operating centers. Those outputs now show up directly on operational dashboards, alongside live 2D and 3D well path mapping and continuous anti-collision calculations that replace the periodic static reports the standalone Predictive Drilling application used before.
William Fox, general manager for drilling at Corva, said logging into the new interface means logging into RigCLOUD running on Corva's infrastructure, with data ingestion and quality checks running in the background. "Everything is downstream of data quality," Fox said.
Built to run beyond Nabors rigs
Corva's platform also translates proprietary rig measurements from different manufacturers into a standardized, vendor-agnostic naming system. Fox described it as building "a de facto standard" that maps each customer's own codes back to the format they use. That work makes the integrated system usable on non-Nabors rigs and lets it connect to third-party rig operating systems on request. Full rig control is available only when the system is paired with SmartROS, which runs on all Nabors rigs. On other rigs, RigCLOUD can run in advisory mode, delivering analytics and recommendations without taking control of the rig's pumps or drawworks.
