Cheniere Energy finished its Corpus Christi Liquefaction Stage 3 Project on August 28, 2026, taking over the seventh and last LNG train at the site to complete the buildout, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said. The finished project puts the Corpus Christi LNG Terminal in San Patricio County, Texas, at a total nominal capacity of 3.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), or 3.9 Bcf/d at peak, according to EIA.
Second-largest terminal in the US
The completed project moves Corpus Christi ahead of every other US LNG terminal except Sabine Pass in Louisiana, which has 3.6 Bcf/d of nominal capacity and 4.6 Bcf/d at peak, EIA data show. Stage 3 alone consists of seven midscale trains with a combined 1.3 Bcf/d of nominal capacity and 1.5 Bcf/d at peak. The first of those trains started making LNG in December 2024, and output climbed as each of the six earlier trains came online before the seventh.
A second expansion is already underway
A separate, collocated project called Corpus Christi Liquefaction Midscale is under construction at the same site. It will add two more trains with a combined 0.4 Bcf/d of nominal capacity, or 0.5 Bcf/d at peak, and EIA expects it to start up in 2028.
