Chevron's Angola subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil (CABGOC) confirmed an oil and gas condensate discovery on 17 August 2026 at the 105-4X exploration well in Block 0, offshore Angola. The well, drilled in the Lower Congo Basin, encountered a column of more than 600 meters in the primary Pinda reservoir, with more than 90 meters of net pay in high-quality reservoir rock.

Chevron said it will assess the find for development as a tie-back to facilities already in place nearby. A tie-back connects a new well into existing pipes and processing equipment rather than building new infrastructure from scratch.

Block 0 is operated by CABGOC. Working interests:

  • CABGOC (operator): 39.2%
  • Sonangol E&P: 41%
  • TotalEnergies: 10%
  • Azule Energy: 9.8%

The find adds to Chevron's exploration program in Sub-Saharan Africa, where the company produces around 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) net. Over the past year, Chevron has added exploration acreage across the region, including two offshore blocks in Nigeria and additional blocks in Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea. In Angola, the company is also exploring Blocks 49 and 50, Block 33 and Block 14/23.
