Corinex Corp. and Plexigrid S.L. have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly market Corinex Plexigrid Intelligence, a combined platform for monitoring and modeling low- and medium-voltage power grids. The Vancouver, British Columbia-based Corinex and Gijón, Spain-based Plexigrid announced the deal July 6, 2026.

The agreement pairs two different layers of grid technology under one commercial offering. Corinex builds hardware that observes and acts on the physical grid. Its architecture centers on BPL, broadband over power line, a way of sending data communications over the same wires that already carry electricity instead of running separate communications cabling, combined with edge computing that processes data close to the grid asset it comes from. Plexigrid builds the software layer: a digital twin that models grid conditions and looks for available capacity. Combined, the companies say utilities can see real-time voltage conditions, find spare capacity and act on network limits from one system.

Why most of the grid goes unmodeled

Transmission grids run on redundant, high-resolution instrumentation at every node and an exact topology map that a dedicated team curates by hand. That approach works because transmission networks have only thousands of nodes. Distribution networks have tens of millions. Scaling the transmission method down to that level would cost hundreds of billions of dollars and require hundreds of thousands of workers, according to the companies, which is why they say 99% of grid nodes remain unmodeled today.

Plexigrid's alternative is a Bayesian AI layer that reconstructs a grid's electrical topology and state from data utilities already collect for other purposes, including geographic information systems (GIS) used for field operations and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) used for billing. Corinex adds a Grid Intelligence Node installed on low-voltage lines, which expands the number of measuring points and feeds the digital twin readings on loading, voltage, power quality and emerging constraints.

The accuracy gap the partners say they close

The companies published figures comparing a digital twin running on standard PLC smart-meter data against one running on Corinex's BPL network:

Peter Sobotka, founder and CEO of Corinex, said utilities need more than connectivity or a cloud view of the network. He said they need what he called "an intelligence layer that can observe the physical grid" and support action at the speed modern distribution systems require. Sobotka said Corinex supplies BPL and Grid Intelligence Node hardware along with edge capabilities across the grid, while Plexigrid adds the digital-twin and flexibility-management side that feeds capacity, investment and operational decisions.

Alberto Méndez, CEO and co-founder of Plexigrid, said the partnership keeps the company's models "continuously grounded in high-resolution information from the physical network," giving utilities a stronger foundation for planning and for flexibility in day-to-day operations.
