Security Engineered Machinery (SEM) has entered into a formal partnership with Garner Products, combining the two secure data destruction equipment makers into one company with manufacturing and engineering sites on both US coasts. SEM, based in Westborough, Massachusetts, and a portfolio company of May River Capital, announced the deal with Roseville, California-based Garner on July 30, 2026.
A combined product line
The partnership brings together magnetic degaussers, shredders and crushers for hard drives and solid-state drives, along with shredders and disintegrators for paper and optical media, destruction services, media erasure and destruction process design, and technical support. Garner's DiskMantler, which uses controlled shock, harmonics and synchronized vibration to take apart hard drives and sort out rare earth materials for recovery, will now be sold through both companies' sales channels.
Both companies' products are listed on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List. Their customers include US federal agencies, US embassies, hyperscale data center operators, financial institutions, healthcare institutions and IT asset disposition (ITAD) providers.
Garner president Ron Stofan said the tie-up will "immediately expand" the company's menu of products and services. SEM chief executive Andrew Kelleher said he and May River Capital saw a formal partnership as a way for SEM and Garner to serve customers as their data destruction, e-recycling and materials recovery needs change, and that SEM plans to pursue further partnerships within the SEM and Garner ecosystem.
Decades in secure destruction
SEM was established in 1967 and says it invented the disintegrator; it has worked with the US federal government for more than 50 years. Garner has been in business for more than 65 years and holds certifications from UL, IEC and CSA.
