A consortium led by EDF power solutions, Al Khadra Partners and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) has reached financial close on the 120-megawatt Jaalan Bani Bu Ali (JBB) wind project in Oman's South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The project follows a 20-year power purchase agreement with Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP) and is due to start commercial operation in the third quarter of 2027.

Sixteen turbines, one offtaker

The wind farm sits about 440 kilometers from the Port of Duqm and will use 16 turbines, each rated at 7.7 MW. Once running, it is expected to generate enough electricity for more than 13,500 Omani households a year and avoid over 270,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The project supports Oman Vision 2040 and the country's goal of raising renewables to at least 30% of its electricity mix by 2030, on the way to Net Zero 2050. Luc Koechlin, EDF power solutions' chief executive for the Middle East, called the financial close "a major milestone for all partners involved" and said it is the company's first wind transaction in Oman.

The partners behind JBB

Al Khadra Partners is part of the Hind Bahwan Group, which is developing more than 3 GW of power projects in Oman, according to Sheikha Hind Bahwan, the company's chairperson. OQAE, a subsidiary of OQ established in 2020, is Oman's National Champion for Clean Energy and holds a portfolio that includes large-scale solar and wind projects along with green hydrogen and ammonia ventures.
