Equinor and partner Aker BP have found gas and condensate at the Linga prospect in the North Sea, roughly 16 kilometers northwest of the Balder field and 205 kilometers west of Stavanger, Norway.

Exploration well 25/7-13 was drilled in production license 782 S. It reached a vertical depth of 4,606 meters before terminating in the Heather Formation. Preliminary estimates put recoverable volumes at between 0.1 and 2.1 million standard cubic meters of oil equivalent.

What the well found

The well targeted reservoir rock from the Late Jurassic in the Draupne Formation and encountered gas and condensate in separate sandstone layers with a combined thickness of 13 meters. Reservoir quality in that sandstone was moderate. The operators did not run a formation test but collected cores and hydrocarbon samples. Water depth at the site is 126 meters, and the well has now been permanently plugged and abandoned.

License context

This is the third well drilled in production license 782 S, which was awarded in 2015 under Norway's APA 2014 licensing round. The licensees are reviewing results from this well and the prior wells in the license to assess further prospects there.

The COSL Innovator, the rig that drilled well 25/7-13, has now moved to production license 50 HS in the northern North Sea. There, it will drill wildcat well 34/10-56 S, also operated by Equinor.
