Georgina Energy is working with Ensign Energy Services on a plan to mobilise Ensign Rig 970 to its Hussar site in Western Australia. The company says it has finished all civil engineering and site works for drilling, and that every contractor has demobilised from site with their equipment. Ongoing road closures to heavy vehicles and variable weather are still a problem for the rig.

Road access and cost claims

Georgina said it and Westmarket Oil & Gas Pty Ltd (WMOG) have received no notification of an AU$10 million cost, and none tied to use of the council roads that WMOG and contractor vehicles are currently using. WMOG has also never been advised of significant costs or estimates for access on roads administered by Wiluna Shire.

At its own cost, WMOG has renovated the Eagle Highway route from the Mangkili turn off on the Gunbarrel Highway to the proposed Hussar 2 site, along with the local wellsite airstrip. It plans to install an emergency runway lighting flare path.

The company's consulting engineers, aztechwc.com.au and ingenua.com.au, are working on access for the rig via alternative routes. WMOG has hired Ingenua to review a proposed Road User Agreement, and Ingenua is talking with stakeholders including the Shires of Wiluna and Leonora and the Main Roads Department of WA. One option under review runs via Leonora along the Great Central Road, then north on the David Carnegie Highway to the Mangkili turnoff and on along the Eagle Highway.

Seismic program

A planned seismic program is awaiting final approval and does not need heavy vehicle access, according to Georgina. It would use light-weight equipment with vibration sources mounted on rubber-tyred or crawler tractors. The company says this needs no clearing or grading of seismic lines and no extended geophone cables. Field work would take about 30 days, subject to approvals from the Western Australian Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration and from Traditional Owners on cultural heritage. Georgina expects those approvals to be issued shortly.

The Hussar target

The Hussar prospect sits under Exploration Permit 513 in the Officer Basin. The primary targets are subsalt reservoir formations, including the Townsend Formation and fractured Neoproterozoic basement, for helium, hydrogen and natural gas. Planned total depth is about 3,200m, and it may be extended depending on gas occurrences and reservoir quality. A secondary target is gas in the Kanpa and Hussar formations above, which Georgina says have shown excellent porosities and hydrocarbon shows in earlier drilling.

An Independent Geological Report dated 1 February 2026, by Competent Person Maki Petkovski, certifies unrisked net attributable prospective resources as follows.

Resource Unrisked net attributable prospective resources
Helium 283 BCF
Hydrogen 315 BCF
Hydrocarbon gas 2.93 TCF

Using prices of US$450/MCFG for helium, US$2.65/kg for hydrogen and US$8/MCF for hydrocarbon gas, Georgina puts the combined unrisked in-situ value at about US$152 billion. The company says that figure excludes production, separation and transport-to-market costs, and that there is no certainty any part of the resources will be commercially recovered.

Chief Executive Anthony Hamilton said drilling Hussar into a "full field development remains our priority target". Georgina says further updates will follow as it works toward a revised spud date.
