Hitachi Energy and Ansaldo Energia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Oct. 16 to develop and market integrated power solutions. The two companies say the goal is to help customers get reliable power faster.

The plan combines Ansaldo Energia's gas-turbine and generator technologies with Hitachi Energy's grid system integration work, which spans high-voltage equipment, transformers, automation and power electronics. They intend to build generation and electrification packages that can serve both 60 Hz and 50 Hz markets, including deployments at data centers.

What the companies plan to build

Both companies intend to develop an end-to-end solution that links power generation with the full transmission system, through to the point of consumption. Named applications include energy hubs, data centers and other large electricity consumers.

Hitachi Energy also aims to support autonomous, integrated operation of data centers through One Hitachi, by combining its end-to-end power solutions with HMAX Data Center.

Demand backdrop

The announcement says global electricity demand is expected to nearly double by 2050 as electrification spreads across digital infrastructure, industry and transportation. It describes the situation as particularly acute in the United States, where the rapid expansion of AI and data centers is driving demand for power.

Andreas Schierenbeck, CEO of Hitachi Energy, said: "Power demand is growing at a pace we have not seen for decades." Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia, said closer collaboration across the energy value chain is needed to meet growing electricity demand.

Ansaldo Energia is controlled by CDP Equity, part of Italy's Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Group, and is headquartered in Genoa. Hitachi Energy is headquartered in Switzerland.
