Iran's Pars Oil and Gas Company completed drilling of two wells at the Balal gas field, an offshore project it shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf. The finished wells bring the field's overall development to 42% complete.

Two work packages closed, two more near halfway

Ehsan Mohammadi, Project Manager for the field's development plan, said the well drilling and the jacket fabrication and installation work packages closed out on schedule. Two more work packages, deck fabrication and installation and the drilling and completion of the remaining six of eight planned wells, have each reached about 50% progress. Drilling on the additional wells continues in a batch operation.

Five work packages, one field

Balal's development spans five work packages:

  • Drilling
  • Jacket construction
  • Deck fabrication and installation
  • Well completions
  • Pipeline construction

Balal sits east of Iran's South Pars field. It is expected to begin production within two years, adding about 14 million cubic meters a day to Iran's gas output.
