The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will hold the first of a new series of LNG safety workshops on December 2, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST. The National Center of Excellence for LNG Safety, known as the National LNG Center, will host it in person in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The workshops are free and need advance registration. Online pre-registration opens Monday, November 2, 2026, and closes Friday, November 27, 2026. Some sessions will be offered virtually in a hybrid format. Later workshop dates will be announced on the PHMSA meeting site as they become available.

What the workshop covers

Each workshop is a full day. According to the notice, hybrid morning sessions let people attend in person or online, and in-person case studies follow in the afternoon. The focus is process safety management and best practices at LNG facilities. Topics named in the notice include facility management, fire protection and safety, operations, maintenance, and system and process design.

The series builds on the National LNG Center's "Prioritizing Safety: Best Practices in LNG" webinar series. PHMSA says it is meant to bring together people from industry, government, academia and emergency response organizations.

Background and logistics

PHMSA set up the National LNG Center in 2023 under section 111 of the PIPES Act of 2020. That law directs the center to advance federal LNG expertise, serve as a repository of best practices, and help LNG stakeholders work together.

People who need accommodations such as sign language interpretation should contact Luciano Vera, the outreach coordinator, by November 16, 2026. Presentations will be posted on the meeting website and on regulations.gov under docket PHMSA-2026-3004 within 30 days after the meeting. Comments can be filed on the same docket.
