OQ Exploration & Production (OQEP) has awarded SLB a contract to build the Bisat-B Expansion Production Facility in Oman. The expansion will raise the facility's gross fluids handling capacity to 548,000 barrels per day, and OQEP expects the project to finish within 19 months.
Gross fluids handling capacity counts the total volume of oil, water and gas a facility can process, not just the oil it produces. The 548,000 barrel-a-day figure describes that overall throughput once the expansion is running.
Scope: design through four years of operations
Under the award, SLB will provide design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning for the expanded facility. After that work is complete, SLB will run and maintain the plant for four more years.
Third build on the same field
The contract is the next phase of development for the Bisat Field, and it extends a run of work between OQEP and SLB. SLB delivered the original Bisat-B facility in 2020 and the Bisat-A facility in 2018. OQEP says the expansion supports its production growth objectives at the field.
Jesus Lamas, SLB's president for the Middle East and North Africa, said the company would 'continue supporting OQEP in the development of production infrastructure for the Bisat Field.'
