YPF, Eni and XRG have filed an application for Argentina LNG to join the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI). The partners call the filing an important milestone toward a final investment decision (FID), which they are targeting by the end of 2026.

Argentina LNG is built as an integrated value chain, running from upstream gas production in the Vaca Muerta formation through gas transportation and processing facilities to export infrastructure. At the center of the project are two floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) units, vessels that liquefy gas at sea rather than at an onshore plant, to be located offshore Rio Negro province.

Project specifics:

  • Combined liquefaction capacity: 12 million tonnes per year (MTPA)
  • FLNG units: two, located offshore Rio Negro province
  • Partners: YPF, Eni and XRG
  • FID target: end of 2026

The partners describe the project as combining their complementary capabilities to develop Vaca Muerta's gas resources into a platform capable of supplying international markets.
