Chevron confirmed an oil and gas condensate discovery at the 105-4X exploration well in Block 0, offshore Angola, on 17 August 2026. The well was drilled by Chevron's subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil (CABGOC) in the Lower Congo Basin, and it hit a condensate column of more than 600 meters in the primary Pinda reservoir, with more than 90 meters of net pay in high-quality reservoir rock. Net pay is the thickness of reservoir rock that can actually produce oil or gas, as opposed to the full column drilled.
Chevron said the discovery will be assessed for potential development as a tie-back to existing facilities nearby. A tie-back connects a new well to infrastructure already in place rather than building new standalone facilities.
CABGOC operates Block 0 with a 39.2% working interest. The rest is split between Sonangol E&P at 41%, TotalEnergies at 10%, and Azule Energy at 9.8%.
Part of a wider push in Sub-Saharan Africa
The find builds on Chevron's broader upstream exploration program in Sub-Saharan Africa, where the company produces around 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net. Over the past year, Chevron has added exploration acreage across the region, including two offshore blocks in Nigeria and additional blocks in Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea. In Angola, the company is also continuing exploration activities in Blocks 49 and 50, Block 33, and Block 14/23.
