Energy Substantiation said on Oct. 15, 2026 that its WTIC token is now available for institutional spot trading on LMAX Digital, part of LMAX Group. Each WTIC represents one barrel of WTI crude oil, and the company says it is backed 1:1 by verified physical WTI inventory.
The LMAX Digital listing joins two venues where the token already trades, Uniswap and BingX. Energy Substantiation describes LMAX Digital as a regulated institutional digital assets execution venue and custodian.
How the token is backed
According to the company, the oil behind each token stays in established commercial custody, with independent verification of the physical backing. Energy Substantiation positions WTIC as a form of spot commodity exposure that sits alongside existing instruments, with trading done on blockchain rails. WTIC is the company's first asset.
What the executives said
JP Thieriot, co-founder and CEO of Energy Substantiation, said investor access to oil "hasn't evolved with the times" and called the LMAX Digital listing a step toward bringing physically backed oil into institutional digital asset trading.
Chris Knight, managing director of LMAX Digital, pointed to macro events that can unfold outside traditional market hours, including over weekends. He said tokens like WTIC give institutions a new avenue to respond.
About the venue
LMAX Digital is built on LMAX Group's proprietary exchange technology. The group says it offers institutional participants price discovery, execution and access to digital asset liquidity. Energy Substantiation says it is building infrastructure to bring energy commodities onchain.
