HD Hyundai Heavy Industries signed a contract worth $673.8 million with U.S.-based energy infrastructure developer Corban Energy Group to supply power generation systems built around its 9.6-megawatt HiMSEN engines. The deal covers a combined capacity of 1,000 MW and will support power supply for data centers run by a major U.S. technology company. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said the order is its largest-ever for power generation engines.
The 9.6-MW HiMSEN engines are high-capacity, medium-speed units built for high power generation efficiency and reliability. Their output and efficiency allow continuous 24/7 operation, which HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said gives it an edge in the data center market. Corban Energy Group supplies gas, LNG and power products to infrastructure projects that include data centers and Department of War projects. The two companies plan to keep working together on follow-on projects.
The Corban Energy Group order follows a $425 million agreement HD Hyundai Heavy Industries signed in April with U.S.-based developer AEG, also for data center power generation equipment.
Market context
The U.S. market for data center power generation equipment has been growing quickly, driven by the expansion of AI services and higher investment in cloud infrastructure. The Electric Power Research Institute projects that data centers' share of total U.S. electricity consumption will more than triple by 2030.
Group-wide push
HD Hyundai is expanding this effort across its affiliates. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the group's intermediary holding company for shipbuilding, is developing core technology for floating data centers. HD Hyundai Electric is expanding in power distribution and electrical equipment supply, and HD Hyundai Marine Solution is expanding power generation engine maintenance services.
An HD Hyundai Heavy Industries official pointed to "the market recognition of the HiMSEN engine's technological capabilities and reliability" and said the company will keep pursuing new business in the power generation equipment market.
