Meta has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Lightsource bp for Mowata Solar, a 172MWdc (150MWac) solar project under development in Acadia Parish, Louisiana. The electricity Mowata Solar generates will go into the local grid, and construction is set to begin in 2026, work expected to create 250 to 350 jobs.
The deal is the second PPA Lightsource bp has arranged with Meta. In 2022, Meta signed a long-term PPA for output from Arche Solar, a 134MWdc (107MWac) project in Gorham Township, Ohio.
Project and site work
Mowata Solar is the third solar project Lightsource bp has developed in Louisiana. The company's other Louisiana projects are Prairie Ronde Solar, 180MWdc, in St. Landry Parish, and Oxbow Solar, 345MWdc, in Pointe Coupee Parish.
Lightsource bp has also built a relationship with the Acadia Parish Industrial Development Board, which supports investment in local education and infrastructure. In 2025, Lightsource bp made an initial $400,000 contribution to the board as part of a community benefit commitment. The company additionally developed a long-term Land Management and Biodiversity Plan for the Mowata Solar site, which calls for restoring coastal native habitats by installing native Cajun Prairie habitat and local native woody plant species.
What the companies said
Amanda Yang, Meta's head of clean and renewable energy, said the project "adds generation to the local grid and supports economic growth in Acadia Parish."
Emilie Wangerman, Lightsource bp's chief operating officer and head of USA, said the company is "investing $237 million in Louisiana's energy infrastructure" through Mowata Solar, and that the project is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs.
A power purchase agreement is a long-term contract in which a buyer agrees to purchase the electricity a generator produces, giving the developer revenue certainty to finance and build the project.
