NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: NNE) has named Jennifer Charlton, Ph.D., vice president of fuel technology, the company said. Charlton joins after holding senior technical and leadership roles at the Y-12 National Security Complex, where she served as chief scientist and U.S. lead for nuclear material verification.

Charlton brings nearly two decades of experience in nuclear materials, uranium processing, fuel-cycle technology and advanced manufacturing. She holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Tennessee, a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of North Florida and an associate's degree from Florida State College.

In the new role, Charlton will evaluate opportunities to expand NANO Nuclear's capabilities across the nuclear fuel cycle and lead the design, engineering and development of related technologies, with a focus on uranium conversion, deconversion and fuel fabrication. She will also advise on the company's vertical integration strategy for future reactor deployments and nuclear logistics work.

"I'm excited to join the team at this important stage of its growth," Charlton said.

Charlton's hire follows NANO Nuclear's recently announced addition of Marylin Diaz to support the company's expansion across the fuel cycle. NANO Nuclear founder and chairman Jay Yu said Charlton's "experience within the Y-12 National Security Complex will be invaluable" as the company expands its fuel-cycle capabilities. Chief executive officer James Walker called the appointment "a key step" in NANO Nuclear's effort to build out the fuel cycle alongside its KRONOS MMR reactor system.
