NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: NNE) has named Marilyn Diaz as its director of fuel facilities operations, the company said in a release.
Diaz spent more than seventeen years at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, most recently as acting deputy division director in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, where she led a team of more than 60 engineers and scientists on advanced and operating reactor licensing. She earlier served as chief of staff and technical assistant to NRC Commissioner Annie Caputo, working on the agency's regulatory framework for advanced reactors and fusion technology. Before that, she held supervisory roles over licensing for uranium conversion, enrichment, and fuel fabrication facilities, along with nuclear material transportation systems.
She holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico and an M.S. in environmental health sciences and policy from George Washington University.
At NANO Nuclear, Diaz will oversee the company's expansion into the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle, focused on the domestic fuel supply chain and on the fuel conversion and de-conversion segments, chief executive James Walker said. She is the fourth former senior NRC employee to join the company. Diaz said public health and safety "remained at the forefront" of her NRC work, and that she is now applying that experience to the company's fuel-cycle plans.
