QatarEnergy has agreed to take a 30% working interest in two offshore Angola exploration blocks, joining Shell and Sonangol E&P under a deal signed with Angola's National Agency for Oil, Gas, and Biofuels (ANPG).
The agreement covers Blocks 8 and 22 offshore Angola. Shell will operate both blocks and hold a 50% working interest, while Sonangol E&P holds the remaining 20%. The arrangement is subject to government approvals and final contractual terms before it takes effect.
Signed in Luanda
QatarEnergy signed the agreement in the Angolan capital, Luanda, on the sidelines of the Angola Oil & Gas Conference. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QatarEnergy's President and CEO, said the company was "pleased to sign this agreement and to establish a presence" in Angola's energy sector, calling it part of the company's international upstream exploration strategy. He thanked Angolan authorities and the partners, Shell and Sonangol, for their cooperation.
