Saipem will present two floating LNG (FLNG) designs at Gastech 2026: FLNGenius, built to produce 3 to 4 million tonnes of LNG a year from large conventional gas fields, and ZR-FLNG, built to produce 0.5 to 1.5 million tonnes a year from associated-gas and remote fields. The company is also showing an expanded version of its proprietary Liqueflex liquefaction technology, Liqueflex 2.0.

FLNGenius targets large conventional fields

FLNGenius uses a modular, plug-and-play architecture and a standard gas treatment system, and it can integrate the main liquefaction technologies on the market. Saipem says that flexibility lets it configure the plant to a given field's gas quality and site conditions across a wide range of conventional gas fields.

ZR-FLNG targets stranded and remote fields

ZR-FLNG is aimed at associated-gas fields and remote fields that frequently go unused or underused because they are hard to develop with conventional approaches. It runs on Liqueflex 2.0, which has no liquid hydrocarbon refrigerants and uses industrially established equipment. Saipem says the design is competitive on safety, operational simplicity and energy efficiency.

Liqueflex 2.0 draws on the Gasconsult deal

Liqueflex 2.0 was developed in part with proprietary technologies, patents and cryogenic liquefaction know-how that Saipem recently acquired from Gasconsult Ltd. The deal gives Saipem one of the broadest proprietary liquefaction platforms in the industry, including cycles that use nitrogen alone, natural gas alone, or a combination of the two as refrigerant, plus solutions for producing high-purity methane for aerospace applications.

Saipem says the portfolio gives clients a way to develop upstream gas resources that have otherwise gone unused, turning complex assets into development opportunities.
