GOE Petrol Sanayi has awarded Saipem a new contract to handle commissioning services for the Osman Gazi floating production unit, the platform built to develop the Sakarya gas field in Türkiye's Black Sea waters. The award follows the Operation Readiness & Assurance support services contract Saipem won in April 2026, adding a second role on what the company calls one of the most significant energy projects currently under development in Türkiye.
The contract
Saipem's commissioning scope is expected to run about eight months. The work will be carried out under the company's standard safety and quality practices, drawing on its expertise commissioning complex energy facilities. A floating production unit, or FPU, is a vessel moored above a field that processes oil or gas at the surface instead of relying only on subsea infrastructure. Saipem said the award strengthens its presence in the Turkish market.
The Sakarya field
Turkish Petroleum Corporation, or TPAO, is developing the Sakarya field, discovered in August 2020 and counted among Türkiye's most significant natural gas finds in recent years. The field lies about 170 km offshore in the Black Sea, in water roughly 2,150 meters deep. The Osman Gazi FPU is the surface facility built to bring that gas to market.
A second Sakarya award for Saipem
This commissioning contract follows Saipem's April 2026 win of the Operation Readiness & Assurance contract for the same project, giving the company two separate roles in Türkiye's upstream sector on the Sakarya project.
