Saipem has won two contracts from Eni worth a combined 800 million euro, the company said on July 27, 2026. One contract covers subsea pipeline work off the coast of Ivory Coast. The other covers a new biofuel unit at a refinery in Venice.
Baleine Phase 3 subsea scope
Eni Côte d'Ivoire and its partners awarded Saipem the offshore contract for Baleine Phase 3, the third phase of development at the Baleine oil and gas field. The field sits in water depths of up to 1,300 meters off Ivory Coast. Saipem's work includes:
- Engineering, fabrication, transport and installation of about 50 km of rigid subsea pipeline and related subsea structures
- Installation of flexible risers, the sections of pipe that carry oil and gas from the seabed up to a platform or vessel, plus flexible jumpers
- Installation of subsea production systems and a 3-km flexible gas export flowline
- Installation of 22 km of subsea umbilical, the bundled cables that carry power and control signals to subsea equipment
Saipem expects the work to take about three years. It plans to use two construction vessels, the FDS and the Shen Da.
Deoxygenation unit for Venice biorefinery
The second contract comes from Enilive, Eni's biofuels, biomethane and mobility marketing arm. Saipem will handle the engineering, procurement and construction of a new deoxygenation unit at Enilive's biorefinery in Porto Marghera, Venice. Deoxygenation strips oxygen from biogenic feedstock, a step in converting it into HVO, or hydrotreated vegetable oil, biofuel. The new unit is designed to process 70 tonnes of feedstock an hour and will add to the site's HVO output.
The award extends a wider biorefining partnership between Eni and Saipem. It follows a contract Saipem won in June 2025 for engineering, procurement and construction work on biojet fuel production at the same Venice site.
Saipem said the two awards show it can deliver complex projects in both conventional oil and gas and energy transition work, and that they deepen its relationship with Eni.
