TotalEnergies Gas & Power has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Offshore Partners Walney (OPW) to buy renewable electricity from the Walney offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea through 2030.

Deal terms

  • Buyer: TotalEnergies Gas & Power
  • Seller: Offshore Partners Walney (OPW)
  • Asset: Walney I and II offshore wind farm, operated by Ørsted
  • OPW's stake in the asset: 24.8%
  • Combined installed capacity of Walney I and II: 367 MW
  • Term: through 2030

Under the agreement, TotalEnergies will buy Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO)-backed electricity each year from OPW's share of generation at Walney I and II. A REGO certificate verifies that a unit of electricity came from a renewable source.

Why TotalEnergies did the deal

TotalEnergies said the agreement strengthens its renewable power portfolio in the UK and supports business customers seeking traceable renewable electricity backed by independently recognized green credentials. The company said Walney is one of the UK's most significant offshore wind assets and plays a role in the UK's transition to a lower-carbon energy system.

Daniel Gell, PPA Originator, said: "This agreement reinforces TotalEnergies' commitment to expanding its renewable power portfolio in the UK." Gell said the deal strengthens TotalEnergies' position in the UK PPA market and that the company looks forward to a long-term relationship with OPW.
