Vision Group showed its LiLic Sidecar backup power system to the public for the first time at YOTTA 2026 in Las Vegas on September 29-30, part of a lineup of high-voltage DC power and battery storage products built for AI data centers.

LiLic Sidecar's hybrid design

LiLic Sidecar connects directly to an 800V DC busbar (plus or minus 400V) and is compatible with the OCP ORV4 open rack standard. It combines the pulse-cycling characteristics of lithium-ion capacitors with the backup capabilities of lithium iron phosphate batteries in one system, smoothing power fluctuations and holding short-duration backup together. In a five-module setup, each cabinet delivers 1MW of rated discharge power and at least 60 seconds of backup at a 1MW load.

The system folds functions normally split across separate CBU and BBU equipment into one unit, which Vision Group said cuts the space those separate units would otherwise need. An integrated battery management system and DC/DC design reduce the number of external connectors and cable connections, and its modules are hot-swappable for maintenance. For cooling, LiLic Sidecar pairs immersion cooling with cold-plate cooling; an electrically insulating, flame-retardant immersion coolant works alongside the cold plates to manage electrical safety and heat in the high-voltage system.

Tom Qin, Vision Group's vice president of strategy and business management, said the product "represents a new path for Vision Group to redefine AIDC backup power architecture."

HVDC, BBU and BESS lineup

Vision Group also presented its HVDC, BBU and BESS product lines, which address power and energy storage needs at different levels of a project. The HVDC line uses an 800V high-voltage DC architecture to address AI data centers' demand for efficient power delivery, and has been deployed at a hyperscale AI data center in Ulanqab.

The BBU is a 72kW unit with a compact 2RU design and 5+1 redundant architecture, built to put backup power closer to compute loads. It carries fire safety protection at the cell, module and system levels.

The BESS lineup includes liquid-cooled battery energy storage containers rated at 5.015MWh and 6.48MWh, plus a 215kWh immersion-cooled battery storage cabinet. Vision Group said that once backup needs are met, the surplus capacity in these systems can support peak shaving and valley filling.

Safety testing and North America

Qin said high power density matters in AI data centers, but added that "safety and reliability will always be Vision Group's first principle." He pointed to a large-scale indoor fire test of the company's REVO 3.0 lithium battery system, used in UPS applications, as part of how Vision Group validates system safety under extreme conditions.

Qin also said North America is a strategic market for Vision Group, and that it "will be a key focus of our future efforts." Vision Group, founded in 1994, has a business presence in more than 100 countries and regions, with manufacturing facilities in Vietnam among other locations. The company said it works with Eaton, Vertiv, Schneider Electric and Delta to align its products with customers' needs.
