Amplitude Energy's Juliet-1 exploration well reached total depth of 2,299 metres TVDSS at about 22:20 AEST on 7 September 2026, after the 8 1/2-inch hole section penetrated the primary Waarre C reservoir target safely and without material incidents.

Juliet-1 sits in permit VIC/L24 in the Offshore Otway Basin off Victoria, in Commonwealth waters next to the existing Casino, Henry, Netherby (CHN) pipeline. Amplitude Energy operates the well and holds 50% of the permit; O.G. Energy holds the other 50%.

Gas readings across a 60-metre interval

Preliminary drilling and logging data recorded elevated gas readings in the Waarre C reservoir, intersected at 2,129 metres TVDSS. The gas peaks lined up with elevated resistivity readings from Logging While Drilling tools, consistent with probable hydrocarbon presence.

The Waarre C sandstone showed a gross gas-bearing interval of at least 60 metres, including 49 metres of interpreted high-quality net pay, in line with other Waarre C reservoirs in offset fields. The gas water contact is interpreted as sitting below total depth.

Amplitude Energy said the results so far match its pre-drill expectations for reservoir quality and thickness, and that the well programme is running ahead of both schedule and budget.

What happens next

  • Wireline logging in the coming days will collect pressure and sample data to inform resource volume estimates and determine initial gas composition.
  • A decision on completing Juliet-1 follows the wireline results.
  • A clean-up of the well before suspension will inform reservoir deliverability, and further laboratory analysis will confirm gas composition.
  • Amplitude Energy expects these steps to wrap up in approximately two weeks.
