BP has awarded Halliburton an integrated contract covering the drilling and evaluation work for the appraisal of its Bumerangue field in Brazil. The award bundles a package of drilling services meant to sharpen reservoir evaluation and improve operational efficiency, rather than splitting that work across separate contractors.

Appraisal programs test how much oil or gas a discovery actually holds, the step an operator runs between finding a field and deciding whether to develop it. Halliburton says the contract draws on its drilling and evaluation portfolio to give BP one execution model that carries the appraisal program from initial well design through drilling and results assessment, part of BP's upstream operations in Brazil.

Halliburton describes the deal as fitting its broader approach of pairing software and automated equipment on well construction to raise output, and says combining its digital tools with field services creates one workflow rather than separate steps for planning, drilling, and review. The company also credits its data and AI-driven drilling tools with feeding operators real-time information that shapes decisions and keeps performance steady on projects in deep water more generally.

We reported last month that BP awarded Emerson an automation contract for its $2.9bn Shah Deniz project.
