James Fisher has secured a contract to supply its Digi Rig technology for a well test campaign aboard a rig in the Caspian Sea. Under the agreement, the company will build a digital twin of the rig to support the redesign and delivery of a custom air, steam and well test package. The digital model lets project teams plan, validate and test modifications before the equipment is mobilized offshore.

The well test work sits on the upstream side of the business, where operators test a well to check how it flows before it goes into full production.

What Digi Rig does

Digi Rig was developed under James Fisher's new product development program. It forms part of the company's Asset Management, Inspection and Maintenance offering, which combines digital technology with engineering expertise to help operators maintain complex assets through their working life. Built on James Fisher's R2S digital twin technology, Digi Rig creates an interactive 3D model of the rig. That model gives project teams remote access to measurements and asset data, and lets multiple stakeholders work inside the same digital environment.

Cutting offshore trips

The technology also lets James Fisher engineers redesign equipment into modular packages before mobilization. The company says that cuts offshore installation time and reduces the need for repeat trips to the rig.
