Liberty Global's egg Power buys Pilmoor Solar Farm from PS Renewables

Liberty Global's clean energy business, egg Power, has secured the project rights to the 72MW Pilmoor Solar Farm in Yorkshire from developer PS Renewables (PSR). It is egg Power's fifth UK acquisition, and Ilesh Patel, who leads the egg Power business at Liberty Global, called it the company's 'largest solar acquisition.'

Pilmoor Solar is construction-ready, with an agreement already in place for PSR to build the project. A 20-year offtake agreement, a long-term contract to buy the power the farm generates, is also signed. Liberty Global expects the farm to start supplying power in the fourth quarter of 2027, generating enough electricity for 21,000 homes and cutting an estimated 9,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.

Local jobs and business rates

The build phase is expected to support around 150 construction jobs in North Yorkshire and generate about £1.7 million in economic output. Once operating, the project is expected to contribute roughly £160,000 a year in business rates, and Liberty Global says it will open further work for local suppliers, contractors and service providers.

Fifth deal in a growing portfolio

Pilmoor Solar follows a run of UK solar and wind acquisitions by egg Power, including the Chirmorie Wind Farm in South Ayrshire, where Amazon signed the UK's largest onshore wind power purchase agreement. With Pilmoor added, egg Power's renewable portfolio now totals 304MW. The company secured £400 million in non-recourse financing from NatWest in January to fund further acquisitions.

Both companies point to a partnership pattern

PS Renewables managing director Jose Luis Gandia said Pilmoor is the second solar project the two companies have developed together, calling it 'a strong endorsement of the quality of projects' they are bringing forward. Patel said egg Power has 'the financing and expertise to bring more ready-to-build assets to fruition.'

egg Power sits inside Liberty Growth, Liberty Global's investment arm for scalable technology, media, sports, services and infrastructure businesses, and is positioned to meet growing power demand from telecoms operators and digital infrastructure providers as AI adoption and data use increase. Liberty Global says its solar and wind projects also bring ecological work to project sites, including planting native grasslands and wildflower meadows, reinforcing hedgerows and creating habitat strips.
