MCF Energy's German subsidiary Genexco GmbH has reached total depth at the Kinsau-1A well in Lech, Bavaria, drilling to 10,860 feet measured depth and bottoming out in the Jurassic Malm Reef Carbonate. The well landed within 213 feet of the original Kinsau-1 discovery well that Mobil drilled in 1983.
RED Drilling Rig 202 drilled Kinsau-1A for operator Energieprojekt Kinsau 1 GmbH. Genexco holds a 20% interest in the project. The well hit its primary target, the Lower Cretaceous/Jurassic Purbeck carbonate interval, at 10,437 feet measured depth, about 10 feet higher than the same interval in the 1983 well, which tested gas at high rates during Mobil's trials.
Better porosity than the original well
Porosity logs from Kinsau-1A showed more favorable reservoir rock than the original Kinsau-1 well, with zones reaching 12% porosity and streaks as high as 17%. MCF measured more than 59 feet of reservoir in the Purbeck interval, with average porosity of 8.6%, and identified a potential hydrocarbon water contact at 10,643 feet measured depth. Pipe has been run and cemented in the well.
Kinsau-1A remains idle while MCF evaluates test permits and options to monetize the gas discovery.
Lech East license reshaped
MCF is also reworking its adjacent Lech East concession. The company let the original license expire on 31 July 2026 and plans to file a new application for a smaller area, centered on the most prospective targets identified through reprocessed 3D seismic data.
