PJM will hold its first GridAdvance Summit on Oct. 15, in person at the PJM Conference & Training Center and virtually, built around the theme "applying AI to the RTO." Registration is open through Oct. 1 for either attendance option.
What's on the agenda
The program opens with a keynote from Le Xie, a PJM board member and co-founder of the Power and AI Initiative at Harvard University, on the current state of AI technology and its value for power systems. A COO fireside chat between PJM's Stu Bresler and NYISO's Emilie Nelson follows, then three panels: "From Queue to Connection: Rethinking Planning With AI," "Innovation vs. Risk: Deploying AI in a Reliability-First Environment," and "Control Room 2030: Moving From Situational Awareness to Situational Intelligence."
PJM describes the summit as a step past general AI talk, aimed instead at specific applications for grid planning, operations and reliability decisions. The RTO in that theme is industry shorthand for regional transmission organization, the entity that runs a regional grid and its wholesale power market.
Who's showing up
Participants and panelists are drawn from SPP, MISO, Tapestry, EPRI, NERC, ERCOT, GE Vernova, Dominion, CAISO, Constellation Energy and Siemens.
In-person seats are meant for people already working hands-on on AI, digital transformation or grid-modernization projects, from leadership down to practitioners. A virtual option is open to anyone who wants the content without traveling to the event.
