Sempra Infrastructure signed a 20-year sales and purchase agreement with Petrobras to supply about 0.8 million tonnes per year of liquefied natural gas, the company announced. It marks the first LNG supply agreement between Sempra Infrastructure and a South American company.

The gas will come from liquefaction capacity that Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra, holds under contract at Port Arthur LNG Phase 2, an expansion project under construction in Jefferson County, Texas. Petrobras is a new addition to Sempra Infrastructure's LNG customer list, chief executive Justin Bird said, describing the deal as building "a strategic relationship with one of the world's leading energy companies."

Port Arthur LNG Phase 2

Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 reached a positive final investment decision in September 2025. The expansion adds two liquefaction trains with combined capacity of about 13 million tonnes per year, taking total capacity at the Port Arthur LNG site to as much as roughly 26 million tonnes per year once both phases are running, up from about 13 million tonnes per year under Phase 1 alone.

Phase 1, also under construction, is expected to start commercial operations at or near the end of 2027 for its first train and in 2028 for its second. Phase 2's two trains are expected to start commercial operations in 2030 and 2031. Sempra Infrastructure said future phases of the project remain in early development.

Dual-coast strategy

Sempra Infrastructure has called Port Arthur LNG a cornerstone of its dual-coast strategy, meant to give customers access to U.S. natural gas supplies through both Atlantic and Pacific Basin markets.
