SLB's OneSubsea joint venture has won the contract to supply subsea production systems for the first phase of ExxonMobil's offshore Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique, extending a relationship SLB already holds with ExxonMobil's operations across Africa.

ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada awarded the contract on behalf of the Area 4 partners: ENH, CNPC, ENI, KOGAS and XRG. The scope covers subsea trees, manifolds, umbilicals and the control systems that operate them, all aimed at keeping the deepwater field producing efficiently. SLB's OneSubsea will handle engineering, procurement and manufacturing for the systems, along with installation.

Executive comment

Mads Hjelmeland, chief executive of SLB OneSubsea, said the award shows the venture can "help customers accelerate development and maximize value from deepwater resources." He said Rovuma is a significant opportunity for Mozambique's growing LNG sector and pointed to SLB's long-standing relationship with ExxonMobil's operations in Africa.

Service base planned

SLB OneSubsea also intends to open a services base in Mozambique to serve operators across the region. The company says the facility would create local training and employment opportunities and support the growth of regional supply chains.
