TGS and Egypt's EGAS will reprocess 34,000 kilometers of 2D seismic data across offshore Egypt under a project named EGY-2DRE2026, the companies said. The work combines TGS' GeoStreamer surveys from 2016, 2018 and 2023 with other existing 2D data into one merged dataset covering the offshore basins.

The merged data will go through an advanced velocity model building and pre-stack depth migration workflow, including TGS' proprietary DM-eFWI technology, to produce a sharper image of the basins' pre-, intra- and post-Messinian salt intervals.

TGS said the resulting dataset is meant to give upstream operators a single, higher-confidence structural picture of the basins, useful for identifying and maturing drilling prospects and for directing exploration budgets toward the most promising areas ahead of an anticipated licensing round. The companies expect the work to support activity in the offshore Nile Delta, the Herodotus Basin and the wider Eastern Mediterranean Basin.

David Hajovsky, TGS' executive vice president for multi-client, called the area "a basin that has historically been difficult to image beneath its complex Messinian section."

Delivery is staged:

  • A priority subset of 2D lines: Q2 2027
  • The remaining full project: Q1 2028

The project is backed by industry funding.
