Vår Energi and Equinor have discovered gas and condensate at the Lakris prospect in the Gimsan Basin on the Halten Terrace. Preliminary calculations put recoverable volumes at 0.2 to 0.9 million standard cubic meters of oil equivalent, or 1.3 to 5.5 million barrels of oil equivalent. We reported on the find earlier as Vår Energi and Equinor find gas and condensate at Lakris in the Norwegian Sea.
The well
Wildcat well 6407/5-3 S is the first exploration well in production license 1002. The semisubmersible COSL Prospector drilled it about 170 km northwest of Kristiansund, in 218 m of water. The well reached a vertical depth of 4,225 m below sea level and was terminated in the Lower Jurassic. Vår Energi is operator of the license, and Equinor is its partner.
What the well found
The well hit gas and condensate in 54 m of heterolithic reservoir rock in the upper Tilje Formation. The rock is of moderate to poor quality, and the gas/water contact was not reached. Hydrocarbon shows turned up in the lower Tilje.
Other formations were less encouraging. The Nise Formation held no sandstone reservoir, and the Garn, Ile and Tofte formations contained aquiferous intervals.
Status
The well was not formation-tested, although data and samples were collected. It will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
