YPFB Chaco set 26 August 2026 as the date to begin drilling the Junín-9D (JNN-9D) development well in Bolivia, aimed at developing remaining gas reserves in the Sara and Piray reservoirs.
The well sits in the Santa Rosa complex, Sara province, Santa Cruz department. Drilling will also gather data on the gas potential of the Tariquía, Yecua and Ichoa formations.
Equipment move and well review
YPFB Chaco began dismantling, transporting and reassembling drilling equipment for the well on 3 August 2026, following coordination meetings with contractors to optimize investment. Before mobilizing equipment, YPFB Chaco and specialized companies reviewed the drilling program through a Drilling Well on Paper (DWOP) technical workshop. The workshop validated well engineering, identified risks and coordinated critical activities.
Production target
Cumulative production from Junín-9D is estimated at 9.1 billion cubic feet of sales gas. If results are favorable, production is expected to start in November 2026 at an initial rate of 4.5 million standard cubic feet per day.
