Sempra completed the sale of Ecogas México, a natural gas distribution network serving more than 600,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers across the Mexicali, Chihuahua and La Laguna-Durango regions, the company said Aug. 20, 2026. The deal, executed through Sempra Infrastructure, generated approximately $500 million in U.S. dollar-equivalent proceeds.

Sempra chairman and CEO Jeffrey W. Martin called it "disciplined execution of our strategy and continued focus on recycling capital." Sempra said the sale simplifies its business model and strengthens its financial position, supporting long-term growth at its regulated utilities in Texas and California.

Capital recycling program

The Ecogas sale advances Sempra's capital recycling program, which backs a five-year capital plan of approximately $65 billion, with more than 95% of planned investment directed to regulated utility infrastructure. It follows a separate agreement to sell a 45% equity interest in Sempra Infrastructure Partners to affiliates of KKR, a transaction Sempra expects to close in the third quarter of 2026.

Sempra said the two transactions together are meant to support transmission and distribution investment in Texas and California, and to reduce the company's reliance on future common-equity issuances to fund growth while supporting credit quality.
