DOE said the update preserves oversight, accountability and operational excellence, including protections for DOE workers, the public, the environment and the nation's nuclear security enterprise. The department described its national laboratories, plants and sites as central to some of the nation's most consequential scientific, engineering and national security missions, and said the changes better align lab operations with the pace and complexity of those missions.
