Petrobras averaged 3.512 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (MMboed) of oil, NGL and natural gas in the third quarter of 2026, a record. That is 11.7% above the same quarter last year and 5.3% above the second quarter of 2026.
The company credits its highest level of production efficiency in eight years, the ramp-up of the FPSOs P-78 and P-79 in the Búzios field, peak output from the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão in the Mero field, and the lowest volume of losses from maintenance shutdowns. Twelve new producing wells came online, six in the Campos Basin and six in the Santos Basin.
Production records across the quarter
Petrobras reported new highs in four production measures, each beating the second-quarter mark.
| Measure | Q3 2026 | Previous record |
|---|---|---|
| Total production operated | 5.08 MMboed | 4.87 MMboed (Q2 2026) |
| Total own production | 3.51 MMboed | 3.34 MMboed (Q2 2026) |
| Pre-salt production operated | 4.46 MMboed | 4.24 MMboed (Q2 2026) |
| Pre-salt own production | 2.96 MMboed | 2.78 MMboed (Q2 2026) |
The Associated Gas Utilization Index also set a record at 98.3%, against 98.1% in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Mero and Búzios platforms set marks
The FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão, the fifth unit installed in the Mero field, reached its planned capacity of 180,000 barrels per day on August 25. After a capacity addendum, it hit a new peak of 190,000 barrels per day on September 3. Mero's platforms together averaged 760,000 barrels per day in the quarter, which makes it the third largest oil-producing field in Brazil behind Búzios and Tupi. We reported earlier that Petrobras' Tupi field hit 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
Also in Mero, the FPSO Sepetiba peaked at 212,000 barrels per day in September, above its designed processing capacity of 180,000. In Búzios, the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré averaged a record 263,000 barrels per day of oil in July, the highest of any platform in Brazil. Búzios platforms exported more than 11 million cubic meters per day of natural gas on average for the first time.
The P-80 and P-82 platforms left the Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore on September 30 and October 18. Each is rated at 225,000 barrels per day and 12 million cubic meters per day of gas compression. Both are scheduled to start up in 2027 as the ninth and tenth units in Búzios.
Refining and fuel sales
Sales of refined products in Brazil reached 1,854 thousand barrels per day, the highest since the third quarter of 2021 and the best result for the current refining park. That is 6.4% above the second quarter, led by a 14.4% rise in diesel sales and a 9.9% rise in jet fuel sales. Exports of oil and refined products set a record at 1,251 thousand barrels per day.
Refined product output was 1,873 thousand barrels per day in the quarter. Refinery utilization was 99%, 5 percentage points above the third quarter of 2025. Diesel, jet fuel and gasoline made up 68% of the volume produced.
In July, the REDUC refinery delivered its first batch of sustainable aviation fuel, 3.8 million liters, made from soybean oil through co-processing. Petrobras also signed contracts for a renewable diesel and bio-jet fuel plant at RPBC.
