Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), a subsidiary of Sempra (NYSE: SRE), is rolling out updated employee uniforms for its field workforce, the utility said August 10, 2026. The uniforms are designed to help customers identify SoCalGas employees working in their communities and to improve employee safety and performance in the field.
The new uniforms feature prominent company branding, employee first names embroidered on shirts and coveralls, and lightweight flame-resistant materials. SoCalGas said the changes, combined with company-issued photo identification badges and marked SoCalGas vehicles, give customers multiple ways to recognize employees performing inspections, maintenance, construction and emergency response work. Customers can also ask to see a worker's photo ID badge.
One of the most visible changes is a shift from SoCalGas' traditional blue uniforms to a gray design. The program also adds expanded sizing options and improved garment fits. SoCalGas said the uniforms were selected following employee feedback and a review of operational needs.
"It's an investment in our workforce that supports safe, reliable service for our customers," said Rodger Schwecke, interim president of SoCalGas.
The updated uniforms will be phased in across SoCalGas' service territory beginning August 2026. SoCalGas is the largest gas distribution utility in the United States, serving more than 21 million customers across about 24,000 square miles of Central and Southern California.
