TGS has won a multi-year contract from an international oil company to develop and deliver AI-powered seismic foundation model capabilities and subsurface interpretation work, the company said.

The contract calls for TGS to apply its Seismic Foundation Model, known as TGS SFM, to speed up structural and stratigraphic interpretation across selected exploration and development workflows for the customer.

TGS SFM is an AI model trained on the company's global seismic multi-client library. It learns geological patterns directly from seismic data, and TGS says the tool helps interpreters work faster and more consistently across subsurface interpretation workflows.

CEO points to wider uptake

TGS chief executive Kristian Johansen said the contract shows "growing commercial adoption" of the Seismic Foundation Model among international oil companies. He said pairing the company's seismic data expertise with artificial intelligence lets customers change how they interpret subsurface data and generate insights at scale.

Johansen called the deal a significant commercial deployment of the model and said it reinforces TGS' position in AI-driven subsurface data work.
